Volunteer Spotlight: Bryce, Data Analyst

How gaining real-world experience helped Bryce advance his career

Bryce joined Prometheus in 2023, in search of real-world experience after graduating college. Although his education and additional coursework provided him with foundational tech skills, they lacked the application you gain through professional experience.

Prometheus provided him with a path to encounter real-world problems and solutions, with a mission he could get behind: to help impactful nonprofits expand their missions through technical solutions that may otherwise be out of reach due to resource constraints.

For those early in their career, [Prometheus] offers the opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills and problem-solving abilities in real-world scenarios. Nonprofits gain access to fresh perspectives and technical expertise…This collaboration simultaneously strengthens nonprofit operations and helps build a generation of professionals who understand how to apply their technical skills for social impact.”

Since joining Prometheus, Bryce has volunteered on 3 separate projects with Prometheus, dedicating over 500 volunteer hours to nonprofits in need of his skills. These projects also provided exposure to popular technologies like PowerBI, Airtable, and HubSpot, as well as direct experience with different SQL, JavaScript, and Python frameworks. Outside of these in-demand data skills, Bryce has gained leadership skills in communication, collaboration, and project management, building his confidence in both establishing client relationships and leveraging his technical skills:

“Working with Prometheus not only bolstered my technical expertise but also afforded me the freedom to devise unique and practical solutions, enriching my early career with a deep understanding of client needs and a commitment to effecting tangible, real-world change.”

Today, Bryce is a Data Analyst at One Inc., with the skills he gained directly supporting his professional goals. Volunteering gave him an edge in interviews where Bryce could provide specific examples of how he solved challenges he faced on projects. He even leveraged his experience on a Prometheus project using PowerBI during an interview for his current role, which he feels was a significant influence in his interview.

Outside of the interview process, his experience with Prometheus gave him the ability to apply fundamentals of data engineering and analytics - experiences that support his career in data today: “Prometheus continues to be one of the best personal investments I've ever made.
